Arne E. Goytil was born in Brooklyn, NY to the late Sigmund and Selma Goytil. The family then moved to the Marcella section of Rockaway, NJ. Upon graduating from Morris Knolls High School, Arne attended Valpraiso University where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business. While attending Valpraiso, Arne met his future wife, Kay Lowenguth. Immediately after graduation, he joined the United States Navy. Upon completion of his basic training in San Diego, CA, he was stationed in Charleston, SC and then in Spain. After his service was completed, he moved his family back to Newton, NJ, and eventually settled in Hampton Township.
Arne was employed as the Assistant Planning Director for Morris County for 34 years before retiring in 2011. He also served on the Hampton Township Planning/Zoning Board for 41 years.
Arne enjoyed taking family vacations when his children were younger, and he had a fondness for indoor plants. He was very proud of his Norwegian heritage.
Arne is predeceased by both his parents; his wife, Kay; and his daughter-in-law, Mary. He is survived by his brother, Glen; his sister, Linda; his sons, Christopher, Mark (Joyce), Stephen (Jessie); his grandchildren, James, Ryan, Kaylee, and Tanner; and his companion, Brenda Fox.
A Memorial Visitation will be held on April 12 from 11am-1pm, followed by a Memorial Service at Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High St, Newton, NJ 07860. Following the Memorial Service, a burial will take place in Marcella Union Cemetery, Timberbrook Rd, Rockaway, NJ 07866.
