Anthony Gonzalez known as Tony by his family, AJ by his friends and “Papi” by his loving dog Ariki, died at the age of 70 in Montague, NJ on Tuesday September 12, 2023 at home surrounded by his family.
Tony was born in New York City and moved to Matawan, NJ. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Upsala College, a Master’s Degree of Business Administration from Fairleigh Dickinson University, and a Certification in International Business from Wroxton College of Fairleigh Dickinson University in Oxfordshire, England. Tony worked most of his life in the pharmaceutical industry as a Consultant in Business Continuity, Crisis Management and Disaster Recovery. Most recently, he retired from Virtual Corporation.
Tony was a true sportsman and loved fishing and hunting; he enjoyed sharing this passion with his grandchildren and friends. Tony was very knowledgeable in world history, an avid movie watcher, and one of the greatest storytellers known. His family and friends always loved hearing about his travel and hunting stories. He was a world traveler with a joyous appreciation that his job took him all over the world. One of his favorite places to travel was Patagonia, Chile.
Tony frequently visited his family in Cuba and was always happy to help them on these visits. Tony found the most comfort with his family, especially his beloved daughters and grandchildren.
Tony was predeceased by his parents, Andrew Lopez and Edith Fernandez; and his brother, Joseph Lopez. He is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy Veloso; his daughters, Nicole Andersen and husband, Tor, and Christina Kinney and husband, Justin; his grandchildren, Savannah and Nolan Kinney and Anya, Greta, Elsa and Elin Andersen; his beloved dog, Ariki; his brother, Robert “Bob” Lopez and wife, Sharon and their children: Joey, Grace and Ryan; his nieces, Abigail and Madison Lopez; as well as his sisters-in-law, Magaly, Lily, Carolina and Ceci; his nieces, Andrea and Maia; and his nephew, Antonio.
A Memorial Visitation will be held from 12 pm to 3 pm on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High, St, Newton, NJ, with a Celebration of Life beginning at 2:00 pm.
