Born on April 20, 1927 in Marion, S.C., he was the only son of Clarence Alva Monroe and Alma Kathleen Bethea Monroe. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Jane Hollister Gray Monroe.
Faith, family, friends, and music were an important part of Theo’s life. He was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church in Marion, S.C. He is most remembered for his enthusiastic participation in the choir, teaching Sunday School, and serving as narrator for various Church programs. He was an Eagle Scout and served as a Scout Leader later in life. He graduated from Marion High School in 1944, served in the US Navy, and graduated from Clemson College (University) in 1950. While at Clemson, Theo played in the Tiger Band, sang in the Men’s Chorus, and was in Tiger Brotherhood. Theo met his wife, Jane, in Hartford, CN. They were married on September 20, 1952. They lived in Marion, SC until moving to Hickory, NC in 2009. Theo was President of Monroe & Co, an independent insurance agency. While in Marion, Theo was active and served in leadership roles with the Marion Lions Club, the Marion Chamber of Commerce, and the Pee Dee Genealogical Society. While living at the Kingston Residence of Hickory, Theo was active in the Resident’s Association, Songbirds, and the Drama Club. He and Jane both enjoyed attending local community plays and concerts.
Theo is survived by his two daughters: Deborah Stout and husband Chris of Elkins, WV and Kay Dodd and husband Drew of Hickory, NC; and his four grandchildren: Liz Stout of Elkins, WV, Will Stout of New York City, NY, Ben Dodd of Edwards, CO, and Patrick Dodd of Greensboro, NC.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 28, 2017 at First United Methodist Church in Marion SC.
