Poppa Ron has lived the Great American Dream; growing up in the hills of West Virginia; working hard with 10 siblings by his side, family unity was always his number one priority. He enjoyed high school but playing football for those Bearcats was the proud accomplishment for the young man from Grafton, West Virginia. In 1959 he enlisted in the Army and shipped off to Germany to explore the World. Honorably discharged in 1962, he moved to Baltimore, Maryland to start his career and met the love of his life, Patricia Mentzel. Working at the Friendship Airport- Westinghouse Plant and living in Baltimore, he proposed to Patricia and they married in 1965. The American dream continued with new house plans and a baby on the way. Like most of the Robinsons, he was a true skilled tradesman and very crafty. He admired the great outdoors; hunting, fishing, digging in the dirt and loving life every day. Living the city life in Catonsville, MD was OK, but the family gatherings at the Little Short Hunting Club in Kirby, West Virginia was the weekend retreat; “the Hillbillies have to make it back to the mountains on occasion, or they turn into City Slicker Pansies”. Work hard all day and enjoy the cold ones in the evening was the way of life for all of the Robinsons. Ron and Pat moved to the country in Woodbine, MD and enjoyed life in Carol County for 23 years. In 2005 Ron retired and they decided to move to Newton North Carolina to start a new chapter in the life of retirement with Pete and his family. Plowing the garden, growing the tomatoes, grooming the grass, and of course having a cold one in the evening, was the new daily activity. Watching the grandkids play sports and riding them on the four-wheeler was so exciting for Pop! Family barbeques, vacations to the beach, cruises, and a trip out west was enjoyed. He lived his life to the absolute fullest! This was his America Dream.
