Born July 27, 1952, in Washington County, Maryland, he was the son of Raymond Elwood Smith of Mt. Alto, Pennsylvania and the late Phyllis Ellen Martin Smith.
He attended First Presbyterian Church in Newton and was a truck driver for 30 years with Cargo Transporters in Claremont, NC. He enjoyed rebuilding computers, model airplanes and spending time with his family.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his sister, Jenny Sue Solony.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 38 years, Brenda Culp Smith, of the home; 3 sons, Joshua J. Smith and wife, Wendy of Wildomar, California, P. Nathanael Smith of Newton, Joseph B. Smith of Newton; 2 brothers, Fred Solony of Mason City, Iowa, Michael Solony of Tularosa, New Mexico; 3 sisters, Jan Sensenbaugh of Hagerstown, Maryland, Tonya Carlson of Coon Rapids, Minnesota, Penny Gourley of Mason City, Iowa; one grandson, Harrison Smith of Wildomar, California; nephews, Chris Sensenbaugh, Travis Sensenbaugh, Derik Culp; nieces, Katie Gourley, Kelly Gourley; great-nephews, Michael Sensenbaugh, Cory Sensenbaugh, Mason Sensenbaugh; and great-niece, Hayden Ulrich.
The memorial service will be Saturday, July 27, 2013 at 3:00 p.m., at First Presbyterian Church in Newton with the Reverend Richard Yaussy officiating.
A reception to celebrate his life will immediately follow in the church fellowship hall.
