Born July 11, 1939 in Carroll County, TN, she was the daughter of Hassie Hamilton Hicks and the late Melton Roy Hicks and retired as a family nurse practitioner.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her brother Ronnie Hicks and sister, Donna Thomas.
Left to cherish her memory are her mother; son, Michael Norwood McDowell and wife, Tracey of Raleigh; daughter, Cherie Turney and husband, Michael of Newton; 2 brothers, Muriel Hicks and Bobby Hicks; sister, Susan Coward; 3 grandchildren, John William Turney, David Carter McDowell, and William Walker McDowell.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 29, 2014 at Abernethy Laurels Chapel in Newton, with Dr. Ted Steven Mace officiating.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m.
