Born January 24, 1957 in McDowell County, he was the son of Mary Jo Frisbee Owensby and the late John Carroll Owensby.
He and his wife, Cindy, were the owners of Lightning Cycles in Conover. Mike loved the outdoors. He and Cindy helped build the trail at Jacob Fork Park on Hwy. 10 in Newton. He loved mountain biking and skiing. He loved music and going to concerts.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Kristin Owensby and father-in-law, Roger Seitz, and his beloved dog Jill.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 38 years, Cindy Owensby; mothers-in-law, Gladys Seitz and Shirley Robinson; brother-in-law, Steve Allen Seitz and wife, Donna; half-brother, Scott Seitz and wife, Alex; and a number of nieces and nephews; and his 2 cats, Zoe and O.C.
The funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, February 26, 2016 in the Chapel of Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home in Newton, with Rev. Randall Cauble officiating. Burial will follow in St. Paul’s Memorial Park in Newton.
Pallbearers will be Jason Bagwell, Scott Edwards, Mike Maloney, Jeff Dietz, Chris Reese, Steve Seitz and Scott Seitz.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. at Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home.

Cindy would like to thank Dr. Brad and Beth Huggins for their love and support during Mike’s illness and also Catawba Regional Hospice for the wonderful care they gave Mike.
