Mark was a 1986 graduate of Newton-Conover High School and 1990 graduate of East Carolina University where he received a bachelors degree in Industrial Technology and was a member of Kappa Alpha Order. He was the owner and president of Dalco Nonwovens in Conover, NC, where his business model and success were based on giving and helping others, especially to his work family of 75 employees. Mark was an entrepreneur and innovator and enjoyed playing golf, scuba diving, and spending time on the lake with family and friends. He especially enjoyed cooking and grilling, even designing and creating his own grill/smoker. Mark and his family were members of First Presbyterian Church in Newton, NC.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 28 years, Joy Matthews Evans; daughters, S. Corbin Evans of Charlotte, NC, and Audrey M. Evans of Conover, NC; son, John R. Evans of Conover, NC; sister, Anita E. Litten of Wrightsville Beach, NC; mother-in-law, Janet Matthews of Benson, NC; sisters-in-law, Michelle M. Swinyer of Greensboro, NC, Jan M. Hodges of Benson, NC, and Paige M. Schoepel of LaCrescent, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A service of remembrance and celebration of Mark’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at First Presbyterian Church in Newton with Rev. Connie Button and Rev. Beth Lilly officiating. A private committal service for family will be held at the Chapel Mausoleum of Catawba Memorial Park in Hickory, NC following the church service.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home in Newton, NC.
