Marie Wright Thompson

Born July 7, 1933 in LaGrange, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Grover Cleveland Wright, Sr., and the late Annie Mae Bean Wright.

She was a 1955 graduate of LaGrange College with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She was a former elementary school teacher and homemaker. Marie was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Newton, NC where she faithfully served as the Pastor’s wife for 35 years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Mildred W. Harwell, and brothers, Grover Cleveland Wright, Jr., Hugh Wright, and Paul Wright.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 58 years, Rev. Fred E. Thompson; sons, Philip Thompson and wife, Marcia of Sioux Falls, SD, Lee Thompson of Wilmington, NC; sister, Martha Anne Greene and husband, Owen, of Dalton, GA, grandchildren, Nathanael Thompson, Andrew Thompson, and Matthew Thompson, all of Sioux Falls, SD.

A Service of Remembrance for Marie will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 18, 2013, at Grace Reformed United Church of Christ, in Newton, with Revs. Ryan Brakemeyer, Ed Yarbrough, and Paul Birkedal officiating. Burial will follow in Eastview Cemetery in Newton, NC.

The family will greet friends following the service at the graveside.
