Margaret was born June 30, 1922 to Clyde Henry Setzer, Sr. and Gladys Grace Walker Setzer of Catawba County. She was a homemaker and seamstress. She was also employed at Ellis Hosiery Mill, Cedar Valley Fabrics, and at Neuville Industries’ day care center. Margaret was a member of Poovey’s Grove Baptist Church, and a charter member of Poovey’s Grove Home Demonstration Club.
Preceding Margaret in death are her parents; husband, Samuel P. Starnes; brother, Henry Setzer, Jr.; sister, Virginia Setzer Williams; and sister-in-law; Omega Compton Starnes.
Survivors include her son, David Wesley Starnes and wife, Susan, of Hickory; daughter, Nancy Starnes Yount and husband, Thomas, of Newton; sisters, Frances Martin of Lincolnton, Betty Hayes of Gastonia, and Joann Clark of Concord; brother-in-law, Ralph L. Starnes of Granite Falls; sister-in-laws, Nina Starnes Hill, and Rachel Starnes Ritchie and husband, Charlie, of Granite Falls; grandchildren, Samantha Yount Hendershot and husband, Evan, of Claremont, Ashley Rose Yount of Davidson, Katherine Grace Yount of Charlotte, Laura Anne Starnes, and Jayne May Starnes of Hickory; great-grandchildren, Christiano David Starnes of Hickory, and Liam David Hendershot of Claremont; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 10, 2014, at Poovey’s Grove Baptist Church. Pastor Jim Hamby will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1:00-1:45 p.m. prior to the service.
