He was born in Caldwell County, NC on September 25, 1962, to his father Lonnie Millsaps Jr. and his late mother Vera Lee Wilcox. He served several years in the Army beginning in 1981 and was stationed in Germany. Larry was a member of Abernethy Memorial Methodist where he was a lay pastor and also a leader in youth ministry. He was a car dealer for many years in Georgia and owned a drag strip. After moving to North Carolina, he started a family business in renovation.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by brother, Jerry Millsaps.
He is survived by his father, Lonnie Millsaps and wife, MaryEtta; his wife of 17 years, Elaine Jarrett Millsaps; sons, Dustin Millsaps and wife Kylie, Daniel Gates and wife Samantha, Matthew Gates; daughters, Meagan Millsaps, Rebecca Gates; brothers, Jimmy Millsaps, Timothy West and Scott West; sisters, Regina Breese and Jamie Gonzalez; grandchildren, Cayden, Boone and Delaney Millsaps, Benjamin, Charles and Margaret Gates and Holly Gates.
Receiving of friends will be held from 12:30 – 1:45 pm prior to the service.
A celebration of life service will be held at Abernethy Memorial Methodist on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at 2 pm with Reverend Tom Jones assisted by Jim Church officiating. Burial to follow at Grace Lutheran Church Cemetery.
