Born August 22, 1941, he was the son of the late Leewood Griffin and Emma Turner Lee Griffin and was a member of St. Paul’s Reformed Church in Newton.
Jimmy was a Line Sergeant for the NC State Highway Patrol and retired after 30 years of service. Later, he enjoyed working for the NC Alcoholic Beverage Control in Catawba County. He was a Mason for Catawba Lodge 248 where he was past Master and District Deputy Grand Lecturer. He served as a Yeoman (YN2) in the U.S. Navy from 1959 to 1963. More than anything, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Clifford Edward Griffin.
Left to cherish his memory, are his loving wife of 49 years, Connie Crumpton Griffin, of the home; 1 son, Jon Michael Griffin of Hartsville, SC; 2 daughters, Jill Leigh Griffin of Newton, NC, Susanne Griffin Edwards and husband, Brian of Stoneville, NC; sister, Judy G. Watkins of Locust, NC; 4 grandchildren, Justin Griffin, Alex Griffin, Phoebe Edwards, and Griffin Edwards.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., on Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at St. Paul’s Reformed Church, 3562 Startown Road, Newton, with Reverend John H. Bigelow officiating, with special comments by fellow Mason, Mack Sigmon. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Jeff Griffin, David Griffin, Danny Griffin, Justin Griffin, Alex Griffin, Lee Lowder, and Tony Lowder, will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the church.
