Born June 16, 1928 in Burke County, she was the daughter of the late John Anderson and Carrie Miller Anderson.
Frances was a member of Corinth Baptist Church in Vale, and her church was her heart. She was the self-appointed mayor of Trinity Village Dogwood Gardens, where she was dubbed the “Puzzle Queen” and was a social butterfly greeting all the guests and residents that she could.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 49 years, Fred Eugene Abernethy; brothers, Hubert Anderson, Albert Anderson; and sister, Fleta Wilson.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Kenneth Eugene Abernethy and wife, Linda of Hampton, VA, Allen Wyatt Abernethy and wife, Pam of Newton, NC; four grandchildren, Aaron Abernethy and wife, Chasity of Vale, Shea Abernethy and wife, Page of Winston-Salem, Eric Abernethy and wife, Lisa of Hampton, VA, Brian Abernethy and wife, Gail of York Co., VA; five great grandchildren, Tamara Abernethy, Ashton Abernethy, Aiden Abernethy, Alexis Abernethy, and Tanner Abernethy. In addition, she is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m., on Sunday, July 20, 2014 at Corinth Baptist Church with Rev. William Kanupp officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 3:00 to 3:45 p.m.
There will be a gathering of her Trinity Village family at 4:00 p.m., on Monday, July 21, 2014 in the chapel of Trinity Village at 1265 21st Street, NE, Hickory, NC.
