Mrs. Adair was born March 18, 1940 in Salisbury, NC, one of four children born to the late Edgar Samuel and Madge Violet Sigmon Temple.
She was a 1958 graduate of the Boyden High School in Salisbury, NC and a graduate of Lenoir-Rhyne College in 1962 where she received a B.S. Degree in Elementary Education.
Mrs. Adair’s calling in life was to be an educator, as she taught in the Newton-Conover and Catawba County Schools for more than 30 years. Her first school was South Newton Elementary and she later taught at Blackburn Middle School and Startown Elementary.
Mrs. Adair was the first woman elected to the Newton-Conover City School Board and served in that capacity during the seventies. She was an active member of Beth Eden Lutheran Church in Newton where she was a loyal and dedicated member for over 48 years. In addition to her parents, a brother, Paul Temple, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband of 26 years, Dr. Jack Adair of the home; son, Michael P. Waddell and wife, Heidi and grandchildren, Andrew Ketchum Waddell and Caroline Elizabeth Waddell of Fayetteville, Arkansas. Brother, Sam Temple of Charlotte; sister, Sylvia Boyd of Statesville; stepchildren, Adair & Greg McPherson of Davis, CA; Mary Phillips and husband John of Reno, NV; Ellen Hunsucker and husband Johnny of Denver, NC; John Adair and wife Trish of Moravian Falls, NC and William Adair and wife Jill of Newton, NC. Mrs. Adair was blessed with the love of 13 step-grandchildren and 4 step-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Adair was also dearly loved and cared for by numerous nephews and nieces, cousins and extended family.
The family would also like to thank the staff of the Conover Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for their loving care and support over the past two years.
Receiving will be held from 12:30-1:45 p.m. Saturday, June 29, 2013 at Beth Eden Lutheran Church in Newton followed by a Service of Remembrance at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Marcus Ollis officiating. A private committal service will follow at Southside Cemetery in Newton.
