Born May 30, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Julius Sherrill Taylor and Lillie Belle Eades Taylor and was a charter member of New Life Baptist Church, which is now Hulls Grove Baptist Church in Lincolnton.
Dorothy played basketball in high school and always helped organize the class reunions for many years. She loved to garden and always put others first. She loved to cook and she loved her family dearly.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 66 years, Zeb Haven Ikerd; brothers, Russell Taylor, Rex Taylor, Wreath Taylor, Hugh Taylor, Rupert Taylor, Worth Taylor, Robert Taylor; sisters, Vernie Wilson and Fannie Tews; and son-in-law, Tony William Keller.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Lynn Haven Ikerd of Newton; daughter, Shirley (Joyce) Ikerd Keller of Newton; 4 grandchildren, Kimberly Hyler of Abilene, TX, Christopher Ikerd of Sherrills Ford, Brett Ikerd of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Olivia Ikerd of Lincolnton; 9 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m., on Friday, June 20, 2014, at Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home Chapel in Newton, with Dr. Jerry Taylor and Dr. Jerry Stines officiating. Burial will follow at Hulls Grove Baptist Church in Lincolnton.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:00 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. at Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home.
