He was born in Newton April 2nd, 1933, to Martin Floyd Sigmon and Dora Mae Mauney Sigmon who proceeded him in death. He was also preceded by his wife of 65 years, Edith Leatherman Sigmon; brothers Melvin and Glenn and his sister Doris Yount.
He is survived by his two sons, Randy (Robin) and Mark (Amy); 6 grandchildren- Anna, Beau, Mollie (Christian) Beasley, Maggie, Bethany (Brad) Blankemeyer and Mackenzie Greene and one great grandchild- Jackson.
Mr. Sigmon was a graduate of Lenoir Rhyne College and a Master of Education graduate of Appalachian State University. He was an educator in Catawba County for more than 35 years. He was principal of College Park Junior High, Grandview Middle School and College Park Middle School and taught 7th,8th, and 9th grades during his career.
His passions (other than family and Church) were Bluegrass music and baseball. In 1971 he started a family bluegrass band called The Sigmon Stringers that under his love and leadership developed into a three-generation family bluegrass band that is still performing. He passed his love and talent of music to his sons and grandkids. He was extremely proud of the band and the various venues they were able to play. The band played MerleFest, Belechere, IBMA Festival, Red, White and Bluegrass Festivals and various venues in NC, SC, VA, and GA. In addition, they opened shows for Lester Flatt, Bill Monroe, Doc Watson, Ralph Stanley, Charlie Daniels, and Ronnie Milsap.
Mr. Sigmon was a veteran of the US Army where he served in Europe.
He was a founding member of the Startown Optimist, and he was involved with coaching baseball for several years. He also passed his love of sports to his sons and grandchildren.
He was a member of Old St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Newton where he served 6 terms as Congregational Chairman.

Receiving for Clinton and Edith will be Tuesday August 24th from 6-8pm at Willis Reynolds.
Funerals for both will be Wednesday August 25th at 4 o’clock at Old St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Newton. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.
