He was born August 5, 1935 and was the son of the late Guy Charlie and Kate M Carpenter Scronce. Sonny served on active duty in the United States Army from 1958 through 1960 and was a member of Crowell Memorial United Methodist Church in Lincolnton.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen Scronce; brother, Bill Carpenter and sister, Mildred Smith.
Sonny is survived by his sons, Kim Scronce and wife Joleen, and Chuck Scronce and wife Courtney; grandchildren, Matt Scronce and wife Christy, Chad Scronce and wife Brittany, Alex Scronce and wife Ashley, and Andrew Scronce.
A visitation will be held from 10 to 10:45 am Monday, August 15, 2022 at Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home.
Graveside service with military honors will follow at 11:15 am at Crowell Memorial United Methodist Church in Lincolnton.
