“election day” November 7th, 1951. She was born in New Orleans, Louisiana
as the second child of 5, to Clarence and Dolores Joiner. Her father
Clarence, as well as her brothers Wayne and James have preceded her in
their departure from our earthly world.
Roycelyn married at a young age to Charles Winston and the young couple
had two children, Shontae Monique Winston and CharLee Miyoshi
Winston. Later, she met her spouse Robert Taylor, and from this union
were born two children DeVonet Micolelett and DeVaughn Robere Taylor.
She and Robert shared many years, laughs, special moments, and
built a beautiful life and home in Valencia, California.
Growing up, Royce and her family moved about quite often, she went to
school in San Francisco as a young girl, and received her high school diploma
at Bloomfield High of Chicago Heights, Illinois. She later moved
back to California and completed her AA at Compton College.
Roycelyn started working for PacBell/AT&T at the age of 16, and continued
her career with the company for 34 years. She started as an operator
and worked her way up to a technician. She furthered her skills with
training from the University of Phoenix. Upon retirement at the age of 50,
she dedicated the latter years of her life to being an amazing Mother to
her children, “Lovey” to her grandson, as well as a supreme caregiver for
her Mother and Step-father, John Monaghan.
She was an undeniably excellent and gifted cook, everything she made had
her “foot in it”, at the very least. She mastered the art of New Orleans
cooking, baking, and preparing classic home cooked meals. She also loved
to watch well-made films, and was a fan of crime dramas. Royce was extremely
giving, loving, and a problem solver for her family.
She was a spiritual woman who held the Lord close to her heart and
Royce served as member of First Lutheran of Carson, CA as part of her
spiritual journey.
Royce transcended to her eternal home of peace, Heaven, early morning
Tuesday July 31st, 2012. She also leaves her loving spouse, Robert Taylor.
She leaves to cherish her four children; Shontae Monique Winston, Char-
Lee Miyoshi Winston, DeVonet Micolelett Taylor, DeVaughn Robere Taylor
and her grandson Winston Carter Smith. As well as her sisters Robbin
and Rhonda, and several extended family members and friends. All
who knew and loved her, whether it was a short while or for her lifetime,
cannot wait to be with her again, and will miss Royce immensely.
