Ricky Ladon Stamps was born in San Fernando, California to Olephyeo and Christine Stamps on July 6, 1964 at San Fernando Hospital. He grew up in the little town of Pacoima, California. His family faithfully attended and served at Calvary Baptist Church in Pacoima where he accepted Christ and learned his teachings at an early age.
Ricky attended Broadous Elementary, formerly known as Filmore Street Elementary, San Fernando Junior High School, Kennedy High School and later graduated from California State University of Northridge with a degree in Radio, Television and Film.
He dedicated 21 years of his life working with the County of Los Angeles Probation Department starting as a Deputy Probation Officer I; promoting in 1997 to Deputy Probation Officer II. Ricky was promoted last year to Supervising Deputy Probation Officer. He was loved and respected by his staff and colleagues. During his 21 years of service he received numerous recognitions and honors as an employee with the County.
Ricky was a loyal, committed and long standing member of Phi Beta Sigma. His relationships were very important to him. He did a lot of community service work with the fraternity and mentored many young men.
Ricky met the love of his life Shametta Robinson - Stamps of Los Angeles, CA in July of 1997. The two united as one on February 9, 2004 and became Mr. and Mrs. Ricky Ladon Stamps in Van Nuys, California and later resided in Quartz Hills, California. Ricky created a loving and peaceful sanctuary for him and his loving wife until God tapped him on his shoulder and said “Son come with me I have a higher work for you”. Ricky accepted knowingly that his loving wife would be ok and that his work was done here on earth. He would go to prepare a space for her one day and the two of them will be together eternally.
His daughter is his legacy. He imbued in her how essential education is to equalize the inequities that have long been associated with our race.
He is survived by his wife Shametta Stamps, daughter Chazja Stamps; step-sons Eric and Frank Goodlow, mother Christine Stamps; mother-in-law Florence Hamilton, siblings Veronica Hendrix, Roxanne Washington and Montie ( Mary) Stamps; Brothers-in-law Harvey Hamilton and Kevin Dolphin; nephews Matt Hendrix, Ardis Hendrix and Andrew Washington; niece Amanda Washington; many relatives, friends, fraternity brothers, co-workers, and countless young people whose lives he has impacted over his years of service and care.
