Richard was born on October 28, 1929 in Fall River, Massachusetts to parents, Ludger and Albertine Desjardins. After growing up in Fall River, Richard enlisted into the United States Navy honorably serving our great country. After his honorable discharge, he married Claire Yvonne Normandin, on February 14th, 1953 in Fall River, Massachusetts.
Richard and Claire moved to East Hampton, Connecticut and had 3 children while Richard worked at Pratt & Whitney. In 1961 Richard and Claire moved to California and had two more children. Richard held a successful career in sales in California until his retirement.
He loved spending time with his family, playing cards with friends, and was a dedicated Red Sox and Patriots fan. He enjoyed the company of many friends through the years and was always the comedian of the current situation, joking and making everyone laugh.
Richard was a founding member of Council 9740, past Grand Knight, and member of the Assembly 2421 of the Santa Clarita Knights of Columbus; devoted member of St. Clare of Assisi Parish in Canyon Country; Boy Scout Leader; and a Disabled American Veteran of the Korean War.
Richard was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather. He will be missed, and we are all very blessed to have shared this life with him. WE LOVE YOU FOREVER RICHARD.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years: Claire Desjardins; daughter: Renee Westby (Bill); sons: Raymond Desjardins; Robert Desjardins (Jodi); Richard Jay Desjardins (Lisa); Rene Desjardins (Kim); sister: Claire Bedard (Bob); brother: Leo Desjardins (Lucille); 13 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents Ludger and Albertine, and two brothers Ronald and Donald.
Services will be held at St. Clare of Assisi Parish at 19606 Calla Way, Canyon Country, CA 91351, on Wednesday, June 5th, 2019. For those who wish to attend the Rosary it begins at 10:30 AM and Mass will follow at 11 AM.
Graveside service will immediately follow at Eternal Valley Memorial Park, 23287 North Sierra Highway, Newhall, CA 91321.
Reception following graveside service back at St. Clare of Assisi at the main hall.
