Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday May 10, 2024 at Eternal Valley Memorial Park with the Pastor Jonathan Mulford of The Monarch, officiating. Interment will follow at Eternal Valley Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Eternal Valley Memorial Park.
Nicole Danielle May was born in Los Angeles, CA to Joi Demetria Mabrie and Neal Bliss May on April 24, 1972.
She attended the following Schools:
Elementary school: Chapel of Peace Lutheran in Inglewood.
Middle Schools: LACES (Los Angeles Center of Enriched Studies in Los Angeles and Orville Wright Magnet in Los Angeles for a semester. While attending LACES, she harnessed her mental (concentration and focus) skills, Showed keen interest in mathematics, health sciences, and photography. She also met lifelong friends, whom together they created a dance group named The Screamerz.
High School: Westchester High in Westchester. While attending Westchester, She purchased her first car, started looking at prospective colleges, and expanded her group of lifelong friends. This time they created a dance group named Damez.
Higher Learning:
Nicole attended California State University, Northridge (CSUN), receiving a BA in English, followed by her Teaching credentials. She then enrolled at National University (Murrieta) and received an MA in Counseling Psychology.
While attending college, Nicole worked at a variety of jobs:
● Ladera Escrow, Inglewood, CA: Assistant to Escrow Manager (her aunt Mia)
● LAUSD Internship Program, LA, CA; Participated in Interment Program to observe and teach English at Barr Middle School
● Arter & Hadden, LA, CA: Commercial Litigation Case Assistant
● Starbucks, Hancock Park, CA; Barista
● Bally’s Holiday Health Spa, Hollywood, No. Hollywood, West LA, and San Diego, CA: Aerobics Instructor
Nicole’s education and job experience culminated in the realization that she wanted to teach English to Middle School students. She secured a job as an English Teacher, at LAUSD: Portola, then due to Covid transferred to the Online Academy. She worked for LAUSD for 27 years.
Nicole Danielle May married Paul David Coda on February 21, 2009 in St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, Brentwood. Three big families attended: Codas, Mays, Mabries, as well as friends and colleagues. During their marriage they adopted a rescue dog (Boxer) and named her Pepper; purchased a home in Marina Del Rey; explored wine tasting, while traveling the California coast; climbed Mt Whitney (part of the Sierra Nevada range, reached the peak, traveled to Hawaii, Canada, and Costa Rica.
Nicole believed that following one’s heart is important. She was full of love:
She loved her Family and Friends: She was proud of her lineage and dedicated to family, she adored, and was loyal to her friendships.
She loved Teaching: She was committed to her students. She taught until she couldn't.
She loved Physical activity: Yoga, Dance, Tae kwon do, Skating (ice and roller blade), Swimming, Surfing, Cycling, Hiking, and Walking.
She loved Music: During phases of her life, she learned different instruments: Flute, Violin, and Guitar. Her taste in music was eclectic.
She loved Animals: She was a pet owner to Hamsters, Cockatiel (Blondie), Rabbits (Gizmo, Buddie), Fish, Dogs (Pepper, Lilac).
She loved Healthy Food; she was a Monk regarding eating clean, healthy foods and drinks.
Nicole loved Nature: She lived her life to nurture and protect our planet and its environments. She loved plants and gardening, and was good at it.
Nicole Danielle Coda is preceded in death by Maternal Grandparents: LaVenna L. Mabrie and Charles Penington Mabrie; Paternal Grandparents: Mamie Elizabeth May and John Morrell May.
Nicole Danielle Coda is survived by Ex-Husband: Paul David Coda, Half Siblings: Ashley June May, Ezekiel Cornelius May; Mother: Joi Demetria Jasmin and Stepfather: Craig Arlen Miller; Father: Neal Bliss May and Stepmother: Monica Rene May.
Memorials may be given to Eternal Valley Memorial Park.
The family of Nicole Danielle Coda wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Cedar Sinai who managed her medical care for 7 years. The medical team included main Oncologist, Neuro Oncologist, Radiologist, Pulmonogist, Vascular Interventionists, Therapists, Nutritionists, Nurses, Cancer treatment Center, and Cancer Rehabilitation.
Providence Holy Cross and The City of Hope doctors, nurses, chaplains, pastors, comfort care, and hospice teams, along with City of Hope’s Oncologists did everything possible to save her. They then made her as comfortable as possible when in Hospice. Nicole indicated that she wanted to pass pain free and peacefully in her sleep. They made it possible, while she was surrounded by loved ones.
