with Glioblastoma, and after just a few months lost the battle fighting this invasive disease.
Matt was an adventurist, a proud Father, Grandfather and Husband.
He was born in Portland Oregon, and in 1970 ended up after a few moves in State College Pa. He
graduated State College High School in 1977, and Williamsport Area Community College in
1980.
His love of adventure and change, took him west. He moved to Tarzana Ca in 1984, where he
started work at Culver Electric Company. He later used this experience, and his persistence and
motivation to open his own business, Universal Electric Company. Matt ran Universal Electric
Company proudly for 30 plus years.
He started a family in Saugus Ca, in 1989, with the birth of his 2 precious daughters, Jennifer and
Kristina Cohen. He immediately had 2 willing and eager kids to share his love of life and
adventure with.
He was an avid skier and snowboarder, and taught the girls about the slopes at the age of 3.
Later as the twins got older, he went on to share his love of the underwater coral reefs and
beautiful life that lives among the sea. He was always up for the next adventure, and would
expect you to be ready in an hour. If Matt was not skiing or scuba diving, he could be found
riding his Harley, or seeing who was up for a bike ride at a moments notice.
When it came time to relaxing, Matt enjoyed his down time on the couch watching his favorite
shows, such as “Spaces deepest Secrets” or “Roadkill”. He also enjoyed catching the latest movie
in the Theatre or attending a car show or County Fair.
In December of 2014, he met Sandra, who would later become his wife in July 2020. They met at
his favorite Mexican restaurant, La Cocina. They would spend many hours there, as well as all of
the other favorite places such as Sushi, Chinese, Indian, and Italian. His love of good restaurants
was just another way that he enjoyed life. From the moment they met they were inseparable like
two peas in a pod. Matt and Sandra would do everything together, from going on tropical
vacations scuba diving to Harley rides, bike rides and snow skiing in Mammoth.
The next role that Matt would take on was his favorite… Grandpa. Haylee Ryan Young was born
in June of 2015. Rex Matthew Young was born on one of his favorite Holidays, Saint Patrick’s Day
of 2018. Haylee will never forget the best day of the week, when she would make waffle houses
on Grandpa Thursday with Grandpa and Nana. Rex loved swimming with Grandpa and riding
his turtle Ricky Bobby.
