Mary E. Miller

Mary E Miller of Valencia, CA passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 25, 2024. Her parents were General Logan Potter (04/30/1898 – 11/17/1983) and Nancy Ethel Potter (09/02/1895 – 08/28/1983). She was born in Butler, TN and she and her two brothers, Linell, James and her sister Rebecca Jean moved to Johnson City with her parents when the Watauga Lake filled in.

Mary was a retired critical care nurse, of 40 years. Mary was a graduate of Watauga Academy, of Butler. She attended Milligan College and was a graduate of the Baptist Memorial School of Nursing, in Memphis. She worked at the Kennedy Veterans’ Administration Hospital in Memphis, Golden State Hospital, Holy Cross Hospital, Antelope Valley Hospital in California to name a few (aside from those in Alamogordo, NM, Seattle, WA). Nursing was her passion and saving lives (and that she did) were her greatest gifts. She touched so many lives in the gentlest and most loving way. Her compassion, strength, courage, and steadfast love was immeasurable. A strong but gentle soul. As her nephew, David Miller said: “We are blessed to have more than a name, but a bloodline. I can think of no woman who has left a better legacy that I have known. Our family is blessed because I know of two on my side who have those lifelong qualities.”

She is survived by three sons, Steven, Robert and Richard Miller.

Grandchildren: Kerri Saulsbury, Shannon Droege, Brandon and Nicholas Miller, along with five great-grandchildren Jack Schneider, Paige Saulbury, Aubrey, Alexis and Austyn Droege.

She has several surviving nephews and one niece, Jeff and David Miller, Joe and John Potter, Warren-Keith DePonti, and Annette Potter.

Great-nieces and great-nephews: Jennelle and Christen Miller, Amanda, Madeline, and Rebekah Potter, Isabella, Gabriella, Dario, Liliana, and Luca DePonti and.

Other survivors include: Jennifer DePonti (nephew Warren DePonti’s wife), and sister-in-law Shirley Jean Potter (brother James Potter’s wife).

Mary was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Robert V. Miller, her daughter-in-law Dawn Miller, granddaughter Sandra Miller, her sister Rebecca J. DePonti, brothers James & Linell Potter, nephews Martin Miller and William Potter, sister-in-law Dorothea Miller and brothers-in-law Winston D. Miller and Pier DePonti.

The family of Mary E. Miller will receive friends and extended family on Thursday, October 24, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Eternal Valley Memorial Park Mortuary, 23287 North Sierra Hwy, Newhall, CA 91321. A funeral service will occur Friday, October 25, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, 23287 North Sierra Hwy, Newhall, CA 91321. A committal service will occur Friday, October 25, 2024, from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM, 23287 North Sierra Hwy, Newhall, CA 91321.
