I was reminded of Mike today because of his death 3 years ago on this date.  I may have said it before, but he was a wonderful, caring friend.  We first met him at our local YMCA where we were daily attendees.  I had no idea of who he was and his lifelong contributions to the local community.  He was so outgoing and friendly that it was easy to get to know him. He regaled us with so many stories about his career in education and his overall life experiences.  All of us continue to miss his conversations and wit.  RIP Mike

First, we offer our sincere condolences to the McGrath family and friends.  We first met Mike and Dottie at the local YMCA about 11 years ago.  We along with a few others, were early morning visitors to the “y”. Mike was usually there, along with Dottie.  He was always affable and eager to engage in conversation.  He told many stories about his time in the U. S. Marines, his early years in Upstate New York and his involvement in the local Santa Clarita community.  He would recall working with local contractors, politicians and school officials. Occasionally, he and I would engage in “left-right” political dialogue and he usually had the last clever word that left me unable to respond.  We had a lot of fun with that.  He was modest about his many contributions to the local educational scene.  I often think about the many thousands of pupils, hundreds of fellow educators and local officials that were impacted by this gentleman.  We will miss him dearly and think of him every time we are able to visit the YMCA again.  RIP Mike
