Irene was born on July 17, 1921 in Los Angeles, CA. As a very young child, she performed in theater and on radio, dancing, singing and reciting poetry. Irene lived in the Newhall-Saugus area for over 63 years and 11 retirement years in Grass Valley, CA. During that time she met and married Floyd Walter Barnett on June 27, 1941. Together they raised their five children. Irene loved the music of her era, ballroom dancing and singing. A favorite pastime for Irene and Walt was traveling around the United States in their motor home.
Irene is survived by her daughters, Sandra (Bill) Dick of Newhall and Vernie (Dave) Hamblin of Columbia City, OR; her three sons, Ken (Marge) Barnett of Valencia, Mike (Arleen) Barnett of Newhall and David Barnett of Green Valley; her 16 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Her beloved husband of 57 years, Walt preceded Irene in death on November 7, 1998.
A viewing will be held today, August 10, 2010 between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Services will be held on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at 10:00 both will be held at Eternal Valley.
Irene's family wrote, "She was a wonderful homemaker and loving wife and mother."
Irene was also the best surrogate Mom to every stray animal her children rescued and brought home. She had a quick sense of humor, a loving warm heart and will be missed by all those she touched.
