Born on July 2, 1923 to Harry O. Bell and his wife, Thelma, in Freeland, Michigan, Harry Allen Bell died on July 5, 2012 in an airplane crash. Last year’s 2011 Santa Clarita Valley Man of the Year, Harry and his wife, Barbara, moved to Saugus, CA in 1965 with daughter, Janet and son, Ken. A civil engineer for Los Angeles County, he along with SCV resident, and now lifelong friend, Ed Bolden, formed a business partnership, Andel Engineering Corp. Harry formed Bell Realtors which later became Century 21 Bell Realtors. He was a member of multiple community organizations and clubs: SCV Rotarians, local Elks Lodge, Masonic Lodge, Shriners, SCV Real Estate Board and Chamber of Commerce to name few. He eventually retired from his career as a real estate broker, to have more time for other passions of singing, dancing, and flying
Harry’s wife, Barbara, Died in Dec 2000 after 55 years together. Later he married Joyce Whiteside who died after approximately 6 years from Alzheimer disease, during which time Harry became involved volunteering at the SCV Senior Center with Alzheimer patients. He sang, ate and danced at the center regularly where he met Thelma Ross who became a close companion and friend in his last few years.
Harry, a WWII and Korean war veteran, is survived by daughter, Janet Austin and husband, Ed; son, Ken Bell and wife, Vickie; granddaughters, Kelly and Devin, and three great-grandsons. Harry Bell recently celebrated his 89th birthday. He was an extraordinary husband, dad, and friend to everyone he met.
Funeral services are to be held at Eternal Valley Mortuary on Sat., July 14th at 1:30 p.m. Visitations on Thu., July 12th from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Fri. July 13th from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. are also scheduled.
Burial will follow at Eternal Valley Memorial Park.
