3-6-1943 to 12-20-2017
Eddie passed away on Dec. 20th, 2017 at his home, surrounded by his loving and heartbroken family. Originally from Philadelphia, PA, Edward moved to California to be an intrical part of the Voyager 1 & 2 satellite team, at Jet Propulsion Laboratory, in 1977. As the Lead Attitude and Control and Power Engineer on the Voyager 2 satellite, he had a front row seat for the planetary encounters of Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. He always said he felt like Christopher Columbus as he discovered the “New World”. During his 17years at JPL, he received 12 NASA awards, interviewed by various newspapers 6 times, given numerous commendations for his contributions to the space program, and gave informational presentations to many local schools.
Once the Voyager satellites were retired, he later went on to work at Boeing Integrated Missile Defense Systems, in Seal Beach. Being that his position there was classified top secret, I am not sure what his duties were, but I would guess it was something pretty special.
Eddie always had a smile on his face, and eager to share it with anyone he met. It was his natural ability to brighten any room he was in, and leave everyone in it a bit happier because he truly loved life itself. He often said, “We are here for a short time, not a long time, so make it a good time.”
He leaves behind his wife of 52 years- Theresa; 2 daughters -Kimberly (Abel Jasso) and Karen; and 1 grandson- Michael. He will leave a void in the hearts of many of those who have had the honor to have been able to call him friend in life. “Thank you for being YOU, Dad”
