Dennis Alan Maxwell, age 75, of Canyon Country, CA. passed away on October 23, 2023 at Morongo Casino in Cabazon, CA. He was born on June 1, 1948 in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania to Alta Virginia Maxwell and Alfred LeRoy Maxwell.
Dennis is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Linda Maxwell (fur baby Zoe); son Robert Maxwell (wife Sylvia; grandson Jason), daughter Sherry Chedsey (husband Joseph; grandson Joshua), son Gregory Maxwell (wife Dina; grandchildren Mark, Michael, Michelle), daughter Jeanette Broyles (grandson Anthony), daughter Tracey McCollum (grandsons Michael, Sean), and son Dennis Maxwell, Jr. (wife Tiffany; granddaughter Ashley). Dennis is survived by his sisters, Denise (husband Richard) and Joyce (husband Clyde). Dennis is also survived by his many, many great-grandchildren. Dennis was preceded in death by his mother, father, and fur baby, Toby.
Dennis was a proud veteran, having served in the United States Navy from 1965 to 1971. During his active duty, Dennis served as a Signalman on the USS Montrose and the USS Ogden completing multiple tours during the Vietnam War. Upon completion of his service, Dennis received an honorable discharge. Honor, Courage, Commitment.
Throughout his career, Dennis worked at various City municipal water agencies throughout Southern California. Ultimately, Dennis completed his career and retired from the City of Glendale after 19 years having achieved the position of Water Superintendent.
Dennis had several interests and hobbies throughout his life including gambling at casinos, playing Bingo, Lotto scratchers, cruising, and his love for the several Chevy SSRs he owned over the years. But Dennis loved nothing more in life than his family. A true family man. From meeting Linda in 1970; a beautiful, young single mother of four children that Dennis took on and raised as his own to his many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren that he loved with all of his heart.
Dennis was a gentle giant; a man of few words, but when the words came out, they were either feisty, or a quick-witted, sarcastic one-liner. When asking him questions during a conversation, he was notorious for saying “I have no idear” (his East Coast accent coming through) and “nobody tells me nothin’!” He was affectionately known as a “house devil and a street angel.”
A service honoring Dennis’ life will occur on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at 10:00 am at Eternal Valley Memorial Park located at 23287 Sierra Hwy, Newhall, CA 91321. A reception will immediately follow at the same location. On Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at 10:45 am, Dennis will be laid to rest with full military honors at the Riverside National Cemetery located at 22495 Van Buren Boulevard, Riverside, CA 92518.
May an angel’s chorus greet you in heaven.
