Colleen was born June 7, 1939 in Portland Oregon to Phyllis and Cornelius McCormick and had one sister Kay. She attended primary school in Portland and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1957. In 1961, she married Jon Freeman and had two children Curt and Matt.
She lived her life on the west coast from Portland to Anchorage to Pleasanton settling in the Santa Clarita Valley for the last 43 years. Colleen held a wide array of diverse occupations from movie theater operator to computer key punch operator to homemaker and finally retiring from Safeco Insurance in the claims department. As a lifelong animal lover, Colleen had many pets and was a caretaker to so many more. Colleen loved the Southern California sunshine but loathed the heat and lived for her family and friends. She loved her community and friends at Valley Oaks Village in Newhall and was active in creating a dog park on the grounds, tending the community garden and being the unofficial pet sitter of Valley Oaks.
Colleen is preceded in death by her parents, Phyllis and Cornelius and her former spouse, Jon Freeman. She is survived in death by her sister Kay and nephew Tim and niece Cindy, sons Curt and Matt, her daughters in law Jackie and Lois and six grandchildren, Madeline, Sean and two sets of twins Jon and Zoe, and Lauren and Avery.
A memorial service to celebrate Colleen’s life will be held at 11am Saturday February 8th at Eternal Valley Memorial Park and Mortuary, Chapel of the Oaks, 23287 North Sierra Highway, Newhall, CA, 91321. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a small donation in Colleen’s name to The Humane Society or the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).
