We have just read that Clare passed away and wanted to let you know that we are thinking about you.  You and Clare were great neighbors and friends when we lived on Linnet Ct., sharing gardening and decorating ideas when we moved into our new homes, as well as being a voice of reason after the earthquake and when Jonathan was little.  Do you still take your mall walks with the stroller brigade?  I'm sorry we didn't stay in better touch after we moved away but it is always a treat when our paths cross.  I'm sure your heart is breaking with the loss of your best friend and I hope each day brings you closer to a feeling of peace and wholeness.  May God bless you and your family.

My mother-in-law, Clare, was a wonderful, thoughtful and lively woman. She never missed a holiday, birthday or anniversary without sending a card with her heartfelt words. She was kind and loving and always welcomed her friends and family into her home. A pro at playing the slots, she took hefty winnings from Vegas, Laughlin, Pechanga, Morengo and many others. She is greatly missed and we are trying to fill the void with memories of her wit and infectious laugh, her deviled eggs, the loving words she always had for all of her children, the way she doted on her grandchildren as her eyes lit up with excitement and, oh, so many others. I'm so glad my son had the chance to have you in his life.  And my life has been greatly changed by having you in mine. Our lives won't be the same without you, but I know you will be watching us from above - a shining, twinkling star. You will forever be in our hearts. With much love, Melodee.

It is of great joy to have know CLARE LUKAS.  Knowing Clare and John for these few years has made my life richer.  Yuko and I have soo enjoyed talking and knowing Clare.  When my mother went on a few years ago someone shared the following poem from someone unknown that gave us great comfort - here is the poem.

We are standing on the seashore. A ship with Clare aboard spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean.  The ship hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.
Then someone at our side says "There, Clare is gone!"

"Gone where?"

Gone from our sight. That is all. The ship is just as large in mast and hull and spar as when she left our side and she is just as able to bear the load of living freight to her destined port.
Clare's diminished size is in me, not in her.

And just at the moment when someone at our side says: "There, Clare is gone!" There are other eyes watching he coming, and other voices ready to take up the glad shout: "Here she comes!"
.....and that is dying.

Hopefully this poem to Clare will be of comfort to her friends, John and her large family.  I know it is to my wife and I.

So very sad, to lose a dear Friend, like Clare. Ernie and I will remember the times we shared, going to Brent's Deli, and playing Sequence, a  game they taught us.Will always remember the fun times at all the card games we played with Newcomers.So Happy that we had a great time Celebrating your 80th Birthday party I planned for you. We loved Clare's spark for living life fully. She lit up a room with her laugh and humorous spirit. We loved hearing about the 'gals poker trips' and her raves about her grandkids. How she loved those family get togethers !!

Carl and I were reminiscing about stories of  Clare and Johnny. We laughed and we cried. Carl talked of their home on 13 Mile in St Clair Shrs, Michigan. They gave up everything with 5 Children and moved to California. What a brave thing to do and an exciting chance Clare and Johnny took. With all the love Clare was surrounded by it gives so much peace to all of us. Carl and I were fortunate enough to  spend some wonderful visits with Clare and there was never a boring minute she had a spirit we just loved. Johnny  We love you and your beautiful Children and Grandchildren you all are in our thoughts and prayers.

Mom  --
Once upon a time, an angel held my hand, she wiped away my tears and helped me understand.  Our time on earth is brief, there's lessons to be learned. Each precious day God gives us, another paged is turned.  Every chapter full of memories, times of joy and tears, triumphs and defeats, through every passing year. She loved me unconditionally, always by my side.  When no one else would listen in her I could confide. With gentle words of wisdom, she led me on my way.  Down the path of righteousness if ever did I stray.  She saw the light in everyone and gave with no regrets.  Always from her heart, let us not forget. Angels come in many forms, for me it is my Mother.  With love I cannot say in words, they'll never be another. Every day I turn the page in my heart will ever remain.  Everything she taught me as I stroll down memory lane.  Thank you God for giving me the most priceless of all treasures .Help me Lord to keep alive her memory here forever.  I pray that I can someday be everything she hoped I would.  That she's smiling down from heaven knowing she did great. As we gather on Friday there's no ending to her story.  Another chapter has begun full of grace and glory.  God called her to his heavenly home, part of his great plan.  Although it may be hard, we must try to understand. While I know you're in a better place now, out of pain and reunited with the loved ones who left before you, there are simply no words to describe just how much it hurts to know I'll never see or speak to you again.
