Brett was born in Glendale, CA on September 15, 1950 to Gordon and Dorothy Jean MacDonald, growing up with his two older brothers, Scott and Tim. He grew up as a happy member of the large La Crescenta MacDonald Clan.
He attended Lincoln Elementary School, Clark Jr. High and graduated from Crescenta Valley High School where he was varsity quarterback. Brett graduated in 1972 from The University of Southern California with a degree in Civil Engineering. He went to work alongside his brothers at the family business, G.A. MacDonald Construction Company, in Montrose, CA. In 2008 he started his own company, Brett L. MacDonald, Inc., Consulting Engineer, in Valencia, CA. He loved his work and never tired of creating new projects. He was greatly respected in his field and enjoyed working with his associates, team, and buddies on many projects throughout the years.
Brett and his wife Nancy met in high school and were married in 1977. They have two precious daughters, Bonnie Zant of Santa Barbara, CA and Annie Weir of Long Beach, CA. He was very close with and loved his two wonderful sons in law Brian Zant and Chris Weir. He adored his 5 grandchildren:
Riley Zant, 10; Brennan Zant, 7; Lizzie Weir, 7; Maggie Weir, 3; and Liam Weir, 2. His favorite times were spent fishing, boating and water skiing at the family cabin at Lake Arrowhead with his family and friends. A very beloved Papa, he spent hours fishing with and teaching his grandkids to water ski.
Brett and Nancy enjoyed traveling and attending concerts. He loved Sam Cooke and Andrea Bocelli as well as country music. He was confirmed in the Catholic Church in 2012, and he and Nancy attended St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church in Santa Clarita, CA.
He loved his family more than anything in the world and considered raising his children to be his greatest achievement in life. Brett was kind, strong, quiet, and funny. He would crack you up with his jokes! A friend to all, devoted husband of 43 years, loving and proud father to his girls, and a really fun Papa to his beloved grandchildren. He is survived by his brothers Scott A. MacDonald of Tigard, OR and Timothy G. MacDonald of La Crescenta, CA, numerous cousins, and nieces and nephews all of whom he loved dearly.
Visitation and funeral mass will be held at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church on February 18, 2021 with burial service following at Eternal Valley Memorial Park, Newhall, for immediate and extended family only, due to COVID 19 restrictions. A celebration of our dear Brett’s life will be planned for some time in Summer 2021 — post pandemic❣️
