Mr. Stach,

I call you that out of respect, not for lack of familiarity.  You are one of the toughest, yet kindest, men I have ever known.  I can't meet the eloquence of Erik's tribute, but I shouldn't try, as he loved and respected you as dearly as one man can love a father.  But I can say ‘Thank You.'  Thank you for opening your home, your wallet, your heart, your friendship, your fatherly advice, your collection of tall tales and war stories, and your refrigerator to a young Marine far from home, that Erik happened to bring up from the base on a few occasions.  I'm not embarrassed to say we got drunk together a couple times, and you never made me bring the beer.  Pretty cool!  You must have had an idea how big that was for a young jarhead.  We had some darn good laughs, mostly about the misdeeds of your wild bunch of boys growing up.  We ate a few pretty good meals together, whether breakfast or dinner.  I am proud to know you.  You left your mark.  You can be proud of your kids; I know they're proud of you.  I hope you were as great a grandpa as you were a father.  I have no doubt you were.  While you have no physical presence, your spirit remains within all of us that you touched, and hopefully your qualities are passed down through Stach generations.  To you, Mr. Stach, I make a salute.  To your family and friends, I shed a tear.  I'll be up to see you again one day, but I'll bring the beer.  And I'll call you Arnie.

I did not know Arnie personally, but I know that if he was anything like his son (and my "brotha from anotha motha") Erik, I would have liked him.  Erik ("Dorkfish") is my wingman at JetBlue, and my heart goes out to all of Arnie's loved ones in this time of loss and remembrance.  Erik, I'm here for ya, bro.  My prayers are with you all.

I have known the Stach family most of my life. I met them when I was 13 & I'm 44 now. I remember first meeting Arnie. He was very warm & welcoming along with Lois. I would describe Arnie as unique & totally an "Archie Bunker" man but with a big heart. He didn't hestitate when there was a time my family needed help. I'll always be grateful to him & Lois for this. They both also assisted greatly in helping raise my nephew Blaine, & I thank them for that. Blaine loved his Grandpa Arnie so much. My prayers are with Lois,Erik,Brett,Blake,Stacy, & the entire Stach family along with Arnie's friends & loved ones. I am very sorry for your loss, & may the Lord wrap his arms around each of you & guide you through your grief. I thank you Arnie for serving our country proudly & protecting our freedom. I also thank you for taking care of Nikita. I know when you reached her & Max in Heaven, they greeted you with tails wagging. Enjoy Eternal bliss in Our Heavenly Father's Kingdom with Our Lord & Saviuor Jesus Arnie. You will be missed dearly. Until we meet again....

Arnie will no doubt be missed by all who knew him  he was a really great guy and when we lost my mom he was right there help out with what ever he could love you all so much and i am so sorry for your lost

When I came around at age 15 Arnie made me feel so comfortable. Emily, Britney & Ashley will miss there great grandpa's hugs and seeing him chilling on the front porch, they loved being able to run on the treadmill in the front yard by him. Anytime we play pool, Kevin always has a "my grandpa Arnie" story that he loves to share. I want to thank him for making me feel a part of the family before I really was. I hope to have a home as welcoming and loving as his was to me. Thanks Arnie for always feeling like you were "my Grandpa" too!

You are the best father in law a girl can ask for! You and Lois did a great job raising the man I fell in love with! I will miss making you soup and can not wait until we meet again. I will love you always!

Thank you for a beautiful life.  

For all of us this gift of life holds the promise of a final toll to be paid unto the Almighty.  I am glad that you were given seventy-nine years in this world and that I was able to share a half century of them with you before your toll became due. 

Thank you for my brothers and sister and for the home you gave us on Fairweather Street that was always open.  No matter what part of the planet we returned from we could always count on a warm fire, a cold beer and a ball game on the "boob tube".  The sight of you in your droopy underwear and fuzzy slippers was just an added bonus, and no doubt left an unforgettable first impression upon many of our friends!  But that was just the way you were!  I have described you to those that never met you as a cross between Fred Flintstone and Archie Bunker.  I wonder how others would describe you.

Thanks for teaching me to throw and catch in the front yard, and for the trips to Dodger Stadium and the Coliseum to watch guys like Sandy Koufax, Don Drysdale, Roman Gabriel and Jack Snow do it professionally.

Thanks for Bucko, the world's greatest dog who lived on the end of my bed until I was thirteen (with apologies to Tippy, Patches, Dutchess, Max, Nikita, Hailey, Heidi, Akira, Rocky and Tinkerbell)!  Bucko got to sit in the front seat of the car while the kids sat in the back.  He was the only dog allowed in the tavern where he would sit right beside your leg patiently waiting for his pepperoni stick.  In my memory he is sitting right beside you now while you wait for the rest of us to complete our journey here.

Thanks for the heads up on what boot camp would hold.  It didn't change too much from when you went through Parris Island to my reality at MCRD San Diego.  I am glad we are Marines!  That is a special bond that you and I share. 

Thanks for the bottle Glenfiddich Single Malt Scotch that found its way to Muscat Oman on Christmas Eve in Violation of General Order #1.  We  secretly passed it under the table and poured a shot for many of my comrades and other friends from the Royal Air Force prior to our heading to Afghanistan.  I have a great photo of that toast as we all hoisted our cups that night.  There were many thanks for that and I like to think it was your personal touch in aiding the war effort.

I'm sorry I wrecked your truck.  What comes around goes around because Kevin wrecked my Bronco.  My bet is on Britney to do a number on his car.  Anyway, I never would have wrecked your truck if Brett hadn't helped me push the car down the street in the middle of the night so he could take me up to Canyon High parking lot to learn to drive with a stick shift.  Yeah, that one is all Brett's fault.

I've heard from so many people who's life you touched and the universal theme is that we have lost a great one.  I cannot agree more.  You raised a decent and hard working family, although we threw you some curve balls along the way just to test your parenting skills.  

I am glad I got the opportunity to tell you that I loved you and am proud to be your son while you still walked among us.  That was important to me.  They say that life is measured not by the number of breaths we take, but by the number of times our breath is taken away.  I thank you that your gift of my life has allowed me to be left breathless on so many occasions.  

Dad, I will love you forever and will miss you greatly.  But you already knew that.
