William Howland, age 61, of Appleton, entered into rest on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at Niagara Hospice House surrounded by his loving family. Born December 19, 1950 in Watertown, Bill is the son of the late James E. Howland Sr. and Joanne Nelson of Henderson, Nevada.
William married Holly Wittcop July 7, 2002. They had been married for 10 years. He served his country as a US Marine during the Vietnam War. William attended Niagara Community College where he received his Associates Degree in Human Resources and received his Bachelors Degree in Social Work from Buffalo State College. After graduation, Bill worked for Thomann Asphalt driving truck and hauling heavy equipment.
Bill enjoyed riding his motorcycle, auctions, being with his family, going on trips and working at Thomann Asphalt.
William is survived by his loving wife, Holly, daughter: Deanna G. Meyers of Appleton, Sons: Everett Benway, Matthew (Chandel) Howland both of Watertown and Dennis (Jennie) Meyers Jr. of Mulberry, Fl., his mother: Joanne Nelson and mother-in-law: Grace Wittcop. Also surviving are four sisters: Carol Bray, Mary Kay Howland, Margaret (Tom) Hodge, and Donna (John) Lee all of Watertown. Beloved nephew: Brandon (Lisa) Howland and several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and several brothers and sisters-in law. Papa to: Jon Meyers. William is also survived by 7 other grandchildren. William was predeceased by his father: James E. Howland Sr., and three brothers: James “Jimmy” E. Jr., Robert, and Raymond Howland, and a sister, Laura Howland.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at the Kenneth H. Sherrie Funeral Home, 6139 East Avenue, Newfane on Thursday, October 18, 2012 at 1:00 pm with the Reverend Wesley Wittcop officiating. The family will receive friends from noon until 1:00 pm at the funeral home.
