Virginia Imogene (Cottrell) Cook, 90, of Newburgh, IN, died Wednesday, August 3, 2016, at Deaconess VNA Plus Charlier Hospice Center in Evansville. She was the 5th child of James and Ethel Cottrell of Drakesboro, KY.
She was a long-time member of Gateway Baptist Church in Newburgh. Virginia retired from the Warrick County School Corporation after 28 years. She worked in the cafeteria at Castle Elementary and Castle Jr. High. In her younger years she was very active in bowling. She loved to sing and was in the church choir as an alto. She loved sharing her faith with others and shared the love of Jesus. She was fondly known as “Jenny,” “Mom,” “Granny,” and “Aunt Jenny.”
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Orville Lee Cook; parents, James and Ethel Cottrell; 5 sisters; and 4 brothers.
She is survived by her children, Diana Epley (Oscar) of Newburgh, Donna Scheller (Stephen) of Orlando, FL, and Perry Cook of Newburgh; grandchildren, Matthew Epley of Newburgh, Andrew and Kirsten Scheller of Orlando, FL; great-grandchildren, Chancellor, Eiljah, Autumn and Abigail of Newburgh; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM, Friday, August 12, 2016, at Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City, KY officiated by Rev. Glen Flowers. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 2:00 PM, Saturday, August 13, 2016, at Gateway Baptist Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, Gateway Baptist Church, or Deaconess VNA Plus Home Care and Hospice.
