He was a member of St. Benedict Cathedral and was well known throughout the tri-state golf community. Ron started his PGA career in 1957 after attending Seaton Hall University on a golf scholarship. He held many assistant and head professional positions before moving to Evansville in 1974 to serve as head professional at Helfrich Hills Golf Course. In 1975, Ron was offered the head professional position at the Henderson Country Club where he served for 25 years before retiring in 2000. He was always an active member of the PGA, serving as chairman for many state and national committees to improve golf for professionals, club members, manufacturers and mostly junior golfers. Ron served as chairman of the New Jersey PGA Junior Golf Program and as a member of the National PGA Junior Golf Committee while building exceptional junior golf programs in the clubs and communities he served. He also enjoyed playing golf. In 1973, he won 11 of 14 New Jersey Sectional PGA events and held five course records. Upon moving to Evansville, Ron continued to play by participating in Pro-Am tournaments with members of his club until his retirement. In 2012, he was inducted into the PGA of America Half Century Club.
Ron is survived by his sons, Mark (Rhonda) Reiner of Newburgh, Craig (Kay) Reiner of Bedford, IN, Don Reiner of Jasper, IN; daughters, Chris Reiner of Nashville, TN, Cathy Reiner of Newburgh, IN, Gin Roby of Evansville, IN; 10 grandchildren; brother Gil Reiner of Delaware, OH; and his dog and faithful companion, Mulligan.
Funeral Mass will be held at 9:00 AM, Friday, June 27, 2014, at St. Benedict Cathedral, 1328 Lincoln Avenue, Evansville, IN, officiated by Father Joseph Ziliak, with burial at St. John Catholic Cemetery in Newburgh, IN. Friends may visit Thursday, 4-8 PM, at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, 5333 State Road 261, Newburgh, IN.
