Nicholas John Galloway, 86, of Newburgh, passed away on Sunday, December 31, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 24,1937 in Madisonville, KY to the late William Guy and Annie (Webb) Galloway.
Nick met the love of his life, Connie Moriarty, in 6th grade at Central Elementary in Henderson, KY. They were married on August 31,1957, and celebrated 66 wonderful years of marriage together. They were blessed with many adventures traveling the country and making good friends along the way. Their four children, Dana Burris (Mark), Alicia Gilkey (Chris), Wendy Brunson (Kirk), and Nick Galloway II, are their pride and joy as are their ever growing families. They have 12 grandchildren: Brad Burris (Ashlee), Adam Burris (Kelly), Brittany Lear (Luke), Taylor Gilkey, Emily DiValerio (Rob), Madison Galloway, Nathan Gilkey (Brenna), Valerie Peterson (Eddie), Zach Galloway (Claire), Lauren Herr (Max), J.T. (aka “Jumping Turtle”), and Lindsey Gilkey. Sixteen great grandchildren: Mayce Ritchie, Austin Burris, Bailey Burris, Holland Burris, Evan Lear, Chloee Burris, Hadley Lear, Ty Burris, Nolan Lear, Sadie Lear, Charlotte DiValerio, Olivia DiValerio, Elsy Gilkey, Norah Galloway, Beau Gilkey, and Gretchen Herr. One great, great grandchild: Cohen Harkey.
Nick and Connie enjoyed playing cards, Dominoes, bowling, Bocce Ball, and riding bikes with friends. They also shared the love of watching UK basketball. He frequently called Hoosier fans to remind them of the Kentucky game time. Nick loved to joke and tease and never met a stranger wherever he went. They enjoyed their winters in Florida and summers traveling north. Nick was known as “Mayor” of his RV Park in Eustis, FL and in his neighborhood in Newburgh. When they sold their motorhome they began going to Orange Beach, AL for the winters.
Nick was a graduate of Barret Manuel Training High School, class of 1955 in Henderson, KY. He then went to Murray State University in Murray, KY. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Arts and a Master’s in Education. He was in the fraternity Pi Kappa Alpha while at MSU. He began his teaching career at Castle High School for two years and then taught at Harrison High School, retiring after 33 years. While at Harrison High School he was the department chair of the Industrial Arts and the Boys’ Tennis Coach for many years. He was a Deacon and a member of First Baptist Church of Boonville for 61 years. Nick served as the Treasurer of the Town of Chandler for 16 years and was a member of Masonic Lodge #9 in Henderson, KY, Swords of Bunker Hill, Hadi Shrine, NEA, Kiwanis, and UCT.
Nick was preceded in death by his siblings, Christine Hixon (Harold), William Guy (Elaine), Mimi Dickerson (Jim), and Woodie Pruitt (Bobby).
A Celebration of Life visitation will be 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 5, 2024 at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, 5333 State Road 261. Everyone is welcome to come and share stories of good times with his family.
The visitation will continue on Saturday, January 6, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church Boonville, 214 E. Walnut Street. A Funeral Service will be 10:00 a.m. at the church officiated by Pastor David Kiegel, with final resting place in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Henderson, KY.
