IN THE CARE OF
Alexander Funeral Home-Newburgh Chapel
Newton “Newt” Crenshaw, 70, beloved husband, father and friend, went home to be with the Lord on May 15, 2012. Born December 5, 1941 in Newburgh, Newt was the only child of Lelon and Jane Crenshaw.
He graduated from Newburgh High School in 1959 and from Purdue University in 1964 with a degree in Industrial Management. He was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. While at Purdue he met his wife, Ann (Ferrara).
Returning to Newburgh, Newt and Ann raised their four children, Newt (Susan) Crenshaw, Janey (Jeff) Toone, Elyse (KAB) Brasseale and Elizabeth (Mark) Kociba. Affectionately known as "Opa," Newt was a wonderful, loving grandfather to his 13 grandchildren. He enjoyed sharing his favorite pasttimes with them: boating, water skiing, 4 wheeling, reading and great storytelling. Opa will be greatly missed by Drew, Zach, Luke and Jensen Crenshaw, Clay, Jack, Beau and Newt Toone, Trey, Webb and Max Brasseale and Charlotte Kociba. He was awaiting the arrival of twin Kociba boys in the fall.
Newt was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter, AnnElyse Brasseale.
He worked for Dubois Chemicals for many years and in 1981 started Four Star Fabricators with his three business partners in Petersburg, IN. This venture fulfilled a dream to own and operate his own business. He retired in 2004.
Newt was deeply committed to Christ and served Him through ministries that brought young people to know the Lord. He and Ann were instrumental in starting Young Life of Newburgh over thirty years ago and continued in an active role as Committee Chair Couple for many years. Newt served on the regional board of Young Life, and helped to develop YL clubs throughout Southern Indiana and Henderson, KY. The Governor of Indiana recognized Newt for serving as a member of the Commission for a Drug Free Indiana. Newt also was a member and served as Chairman of Evansville ARC Board of Directors.
Newt and Ann attended Christian Fellowship Church in Evansville since 1975 where Newt served as an Elder. In 2010, they moved to Zionsville, IN where they were currently attending Christ Community Church of Carmel.
A memorial service will be held at Christian Fellowship Church, 4100 Millersburg Road, on Tuesday, May 22, 2012, at 10:30 AM, officiated by Rev. David Niednagel, with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery in Newburgh, IN. Friends may visit Monday, May 21, 2012, from 3:00 to 8:00 PM at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, 5333 State Road 261, Newburgh.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Young Life of Newburgh (younglife.org/sites/newburgh) or Evansville ARC (evansvillearc.org). Condolences may be made online at www.AlexanderNewburghChapel.com.
