He joined the Navy at seventeen and earned his Associates Degree in Industrial Drafting Technology. Mark worked at Industrial Contractors, retiring in 2018. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, playing the guitar and golfing. He enjoyed being close to nature, writing songs and poetry.
Mark was preceded in death by his brothers, Thomas Richard Smith and Randall Lee Smith, and infant sister, Clarinda Joan Smith.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Carol (Loehr) Smith; son, Jeremiah Smith (Brittany) of Bradenton, FL; daughters, Rachel Smith of Newburgh and Sierra McCormick (Hunter) of Evansville; grandchildren, Greyson and Adeline Smith and Hudson and Weston McCormick; sisters, Deborah Hastings of Evansville and Clarissa Roberts of Chandler; brother, James Edward Smith, Jr. of Chandler; sister, Christina Elliott of Fort Mitchell, AL, nine nieces and five nephews.
A Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, 5333 State Road 261, officiated by Tom Scholl, with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery. Family and friends may visit Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
