Malcolm Kavanaugh died peacefully Tuesday, June 12, 2012. Malcolm “Mack” Kavanaugh was born November 1, 1921 in Corydon, Kentucky to John Frank and Bertha (Gipson) Kavanaugh, the youngest of eight sons.
He was married to the love of his life of sixty- nine years, Margaret (Carter) Kavanaugh, who preceded him in death January 9, 2009.
He served in the Army during World War II in the 14th Company-C Armored Division under General Patton. Mack worked at Hoosier Cardinal where he was President of the union (AFL-CIO). He later worked at H&H Music and retired from Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation. He was one of the few craftsmen who excelled in restoring musical instruments. His passion was his family, especially his love for his grandchildren. His love for the Lord led him to teach God’s Word at several area churches. He was raised in the Methodist faith and he attended Faith F.W.B. Church in Chandler, Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and seven brothers.
Survivors include his children; daughters, Jean Helms (husband Robert) of Boonville, IN, Maxine Holdaway (husband Gary) of Newburgh, IN, Kay Churchill (Husband Barry) of Lakeland, FL; son, Malcolm Lee (Wife Deb) of Kuttawa, KY; grandchildren, Tami Zint (Kerry), Rick Helms (Kelly), Ron Helms (Rhonda), Natalie Vickers, Tim Bowen, Kevin Bowen (Kim), Sherri Bowen, Brent Churchill, Michael Churchill, Robyn Appino (Tony), Matthew Kavanaugh (Ashley), 18 great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Eloise Kavanaugh of Newburgh, IN and Frances Kavanaugh of Evansville, IN; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 10:00 AM, Friday, June 15, 2012, at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, officiated by Rev. Ron Helms and Rev. Daniel Edwards, with burial at Rose Hill Cemetery. Military Honors will be performed at the cemetery by American Legion Kapperman Post 44. Friends may visit Thursday from 2:00 PM until 8 PM at the funeral home.
