Janice Jean (Fansler) Gash, 74, joined her beloved husband, Vern Gash, in heaven on January 15, 2025. Born in Bakersfield, California, on September 1, 1950, Jan lived a life defined by love, generosity, and selflessness, leaving an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Jan was a proud graduate of Castle High School in 1968 – where she earned a scholarship for her academic excellence – and Indiana State University. She and Vern married on December 3, 1977, and together they built a family rooted in love and shared countless memories during their 39 years of marriage. Jan lived most of her adult life in Newburgh, Indiana, before moving in 2021 to Franklin, Indiana, to be closer to her son, Justin, and his family.
Jan was preceded in death by her husband, Vern, her parents, Harmon and Viola (Adams) Fansler, and her sister, Theresa. She is survived by her two sons, Justin (Andrea) and Ryan, and her beloved grandson, Christian, who was her greatest pride and joy.
Jan readily extended her love to Andrea and treated her as her own daughter, and Andrea will always hold Jan in her heart as a second mother.
Jan was truly extraordinary—a servant-hearted woman who always put others before herself. She had an innate ability to care deeply and give selflessly, whether it was through acts of service, thoughtful gestures, or simply being there when someone needed her. Her home was host to many driveway basketball games, sleepovers, and impromptu lunches and dinners for her sons’ friends when they were young, and she frequently volunteered her time assisting with Newburgh Junior Baseball (in which her sons participated) and Castle Elementary School (where her sons and grandson attended). Her heart for others made her the cornerstone of her family and a beloved friend to many. Jan’s enduring love, nurturing spirit, and unwavering dedication to her family and friends is a legacy that will forever be remembered by them all.
She had a talent for making holidays magical, pouring her heart into every detail, from decorations to creating special moments that her family will forever treasure. Jan also loved to travel and was blessed with opportunities to explore Ireland, England, the Bahamas, and more, creating new memories that brought her joy and enriched her life.
Jan’s legacy is one of kindness, generosity, and a life well-lived. Her absence leaves a void that cannot be filled, but her memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
