JC “Tom” Bishop, 78, of Newburgh, IN, passed away in his home on Saturday, May 23, 2015. He was born February 7, 1937, to Jess and Verna (Ensor) Bishop and was raised as a country boy with down-to-earth values.
He served in the Army and was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, MO and Niagara Falls, NY. During his stay in Niagara Falls, JC met and fell in love with Marlene Moncalian. On December 10, 1958, JC married Marlene in Waukegan, IL. Together, they returned to Indiana where they lived and raised their family. They remained together for the rest of JC’s life, 57 years. As testament to his loyalty and belief in working hard, JC worked for the same company for nearly his entire working career. JC worked at Whirlpool Corporation for 36 years and retired in 1999.
Family was the most important thing in JC’s life. He was always willing to give his time and energy for the betterment of his family and friends. JC was a true outdoorsman and was happiest when outside. Truly gifted with creative hands and a mechanical mind, he enjoyed carpentry and antique car restoration. JC loved to travel the country via motorcycle with Marlene. He loved the freedom and beauty of traveling by motorcycle and developed many lasting friendships through his passion for riding.
JC was preceded in death by his parents; son, James (JC) Bishop; sisters, Wilma Lois (Bishop) Moore and Mary Emogene (Bishop) Taylor; brothers, Willard and Charles Bishop.
He is survived by his wife, Marlene (Moncalian) Bishop of Newburgh, IN; daughter, Anita Bishop of Newburgh, IN; son, Matthew (Nico) of Canton, GA; grandchildren, Maloree Cobb, Jaycob Cobb, Logan Bishop, Ryley Bishop and Kameryn Bishop; sister-in-law, Louise Bishop of McHenry, KY. JC is also survived by several nieces and nephews with whom he held close relationships that he valued deeply.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Heritage Hospice and Parkinson’s Foundation are preferred.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, May 30, 2015, at Alexander Newburgh Chapel officiated by Fr. Joseph Ziliak. Friends may visit Friday, 2-8 pm and Saturday, 10:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.
