He attended Mt. Vernon High School, where he lettered in varsity football and was a member of their 1941 Football Hall of Fame. Hutch was a WWII veteran who served in the US Navy. He attended the Merchant Marine Academy US Naval Reserve and served active duty in the Atlantic and Pacific war zones. He was a member of the VFW Post 1114. Hutch worked various jobs throughout his life, from hauling coal, working at steel mills, the US Postal Service, appliance service manager, to teaching at Bosse High School. He enjoyed boating and camping with family and friends and loved square dancing.
Hutch was preceded in death by sons, Randy and Dan Hutchinson; three sisters, and two brothers.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Melba Hutchinson; daughters, Shirlene Mott (Fred), Jana Morris (Dave) and Sharla Hutchinson; twelve grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson, numerous stepchildren and step-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 8, 2020 at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, 5333 State Road 261, where military services will be conducted. Officiated by Pastor Mike Claypool. Friends may visit Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
