Donald Elmer Campbell, age 91, of Duncan, SC went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 23 , 2021. He was born on September 16, 1930 in Mishawaka, IN to Clarence and Opal Campbell. Donald was the second of their three children. At age 9, he accepted Jesus as his Savior which, he said, set the course of his entire life.
He appreciated growing up on a farm and said he learned what hard work was and for him they were happy years. He was part of the band in high school and active in the youth program at church. At age 16, he made a public commitment for full time Christian service.
After graduation from James Whitcomb Riley High School, Don worked for a couple of years, then applied to Moody Bible Institute and majored in the Missionary Technical Course. There, he met Elisabeth and following graduation they married on October 3, 1953. They enjoyed 64 years of marriage before she went to be with the Lord in 2018.
Don has always had a passion for Christian ministry and missions. Highlights of various activities include working for Moody Bible Institute for 23 years, the later part of those years as Vice President of Administrative Services, SEND International as President of Alaska Bible College, and International Director of Personnel and Finance for the International headquarters of SEND International. After that, he was the Executive Vice President of Educational Projects International which he considered to be the most exciting and fulfilling role in his life. He retired from SEND International in 2000 after serving with them for 22 years. He said his entire effort was to be involved in Christian ministries that related to the gospel and eternal values.
Don loved his family. Throughout his life, he enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He prayed for each by name every morning. His love for them was deep and his desire that each would have a relationship with Jesus was deeper. He always hoped that they would experience lives filled with joy and blessing. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends, but we know that we will meet him again if, like him, we have received God’s great gift of salvation through Jesus.
He is survived by a daughter, Mary (and Tom); a daughter, Amy (and Mike), eight grandchildren; Daniel (and Devon), Elisa, Isaiah, Nathan (and Amber), Joshua, James, Beth (and Camden), Laura; two great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Enoch; and brother, Billy Campbell.
