Dolores was born on August 30, 1932, the 9th of 14 children to Frank Joseph Bayer and Verona Antonette Lamey in Vanderburgh County, Indiana. After graduating from Reitz- Memorial High School in 1950, she was working at Schmitt Photography when she met her future husband to be, Gerald John Betz. They married in 1951 and raised 5 children together. Gerald John Betz Jr. (1952), Steven John Betz (1955), Sandra Lynn Betz (1957), Jill Annette Betz (1959), Randall John Betz (1963). Dolores willingly became a military wife traveling to various countries and military installations and raising their children. She was a dedicated wife and mother who supported her children with PTA and school activities, Scouting programs and their religious education. Family always came first to her. Gerald and Dolores amicably divorced in 1982. In 1983 she moved from her then home in San Antonio, TX to Evansville in order to be closer to family. She re-met a childhood friend, Reno Burgdorf. They married in April 1983. She was his best friend and caretaker until his passing in 1985. She was employed at Union Federal Savings in Evansville until she retired. Later Dolores met John Tucker and they eventually married in 1991 in Henderson KY, taking up residency in Haubstadt IN until his passing in 2016.
She resided at the Cypress Grove Nursing facility from 2017 until her recent passing. She will be entombed at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Evansville, Indiana. She was very much loved and will be missed by everyone.
She is proceeded in death by her parents, Frank and Verona Bayer; husband, Gerald Betz; husband, Reno Burgdorf; husband, John Tucker; grandson, Levi Jeremiah Cutshall, and ten siblings, Mary, Helen, Rita, Ed, Vincent, Bernice, Raymond, Kathryn, Robert and Betty Jo.
She is survived by her siblings, Dorothy Marshall, Anna Ritzert and Roseann “Cookie” (Bill) Barrow; children, Gerald Betz Jr., Steve (Tammi) Betz, Sandy (Bill) Cutshall, Jill (Richard) Kleinkauf, and Randy Betz; grandchildren, Brandon (Rhianna) Cutshall, Joshua (Liza) Cutshall, Stephanie (Steffen) Frazier, Courtney (Myranda) Cutshall , Erik (Gbemisola) Young, Tabitha (Joe) Davis, Dalton, Katrina (John) Raincrow, Jeff (Mary) Pogue, Joe Pogue and Jake (Kasey) Pogue; 6 great-grandchildren, and many cousins and relatives in her large family who she loved.
A Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 30, 2025 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 625 Frame Road, officiated by Deacon Jay VanHoosier. Family and friends may visit Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until service time. Her final resting place will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
