Deanna (Did) Gordon, 87, of Logansport, Indiana, went home to be with the Lord peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday evening, April 2, 2025, at Woodbridge Health Campus in Logansport. Born November 23, 1937, in Hatfield, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Harwood and Mary (Vance) Pattie. On July 3, 1959, she married the love of her life, Karl (Grip) Gordon.
Following high school, Deanna earned her Bachelors Degree in Science, married, and then went on to complete a Master of Science degree from the University of New Mexico. During the 1960's, Karl and Deanna moved to Pennsylvania where they built a life together. While in Pennsylvania, she taught science in all educational levels from elementary school through college. When their daughter, Kristi, was young, Deanna co-owned and operated a Christian book store for a few years which she dearly loved. After which, she taught science and other subjects for many years at Calvary Baptist Christian School in Union City, PA, where her daughter attended. Upon their move back to southern Indiana, Deanna primarily worked in the Spencer County Court House in the Clerk’s and Recorder’s Offices.
A few years after the loss of her husband, Grip, in 2004, Deanna moved to Logansport to be closer to her daughter’s family where she then became a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. Deanna considered it a blessing to use her talents, either playing the piano or organ at the churches she attended over the years, and Hillcrest was no exception. Music was her passion, and Deanna played to give praise to her Lord and Savior and minister to the saints. She also greatly enjoyed politics, keeping up with current events, and was an avid reader. Deanna spent the spring and summers planting flowers and had a special gift when it came to floral arranging. Her favorite activity was doting on and spending time with her daughter, son-in-law, and her two beloved grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kristi and Jeff Spangler, and her grandchildren, Luke and Karis, all of Logansport.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Janis Montgomery, several beloved brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, one nephew, and one niece.
Visitation hours will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, 5333 State Road 261, Newburgh, IN. A funeral service celebrating Deanna's life will follow with Pastor Carl Lendermon officiating. Final resting place will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery in Rockport, Indiana.
