Bobby retired from Alcoa, Inc. after 34 years of service, he was a mechanical tech. He could fix absolutely anything at work and at home. He was great with computers and various electronics. When a friend called with electronic or computer problems, he always went to their aid. Bobby loved fishing, bowling baseball, golf, hunting, shooting, music and travel. He was a lifelong Mason at Lodge #174 F&AM in Newburgh. He was a real history buff; he was very well read and watched the History channel for hours on end. Bobby loved old western movies, classic car restoration shows and Fox News.
There were many travel adventures but, his bucket list trip camping 30 days and trailering his Harley out west was his all-time favorite. Bobby rode the Bad Lands, Needle Hwy., Custer, Yellowstone, the Tetons, Little Big Horn, Hwy. to the Sky (twice) in Glacier National Park, Bryce Canyon, Grand Canyon, the Arches, Crazy Horse, Mt. Rushmore, and so much more. There were so many special vacations and trips, Florida, San Antonio, Las Vegas, Montana, South Dakota, Wyoming, (2) cruises to the west Caribbean, Eastern Ky., Virginia Beach, Arizona and winters in Florida and Gulf Shores, AL. We have seen so many beautiful sights but, his favorite trip to southern Illinois each September/October was his all-time favorite place to go. We were married in Elizabethtown, IL and Rosiclare, IL was his home.
Bobby’s eccentricities were never letting go of anything he ever bought. I know he had underwear from the sixties when we got together. Skeletons were his ancestors from Potts Inn, they were thieves and murderers. If you ever get a chance to read “Satan’s Ferrymen” it tells all about both sides of his family history. The Hobbs (His mother’s side) were good people his great-great-great Grandma was Anna Hobbs, the doctor that found the cure for milk weed sickness that killed President Lincoln’s mother.
Bobby is survived by his wife, Marme M. Potts and beloved dog China; Bobby’s only sister, Carolyn Wilson, (Michael); two children Dakota G. Potts (Britany), and Bobbie Jo Potts-Fisher, (Charlie) and adopted son Doug Hall; two step-daughters Jenni McFarland (Danny) and Christy Ficklin (Jeff); ten grandchildren, Justin & Jacob McFarland, Lennon Fisher, Ty, Brooke, Lauren, & Megan Ficklin, Noah Jaxson Potts and Camden Gerling; nephew, Michael Wilson (Shannon); niece, Leslie Wilson; and great niece Mariah Wilson.
By his request, Bobby will be cremated with no memorial service, at this time. Instead next spring when everything comes back to life, there will be a Life Celebration in his honor for friends and family at Cave-in-Rock Park. His ashes will be released by Marme, Bobbie Jo and Dakota from the highest bluff over the Ohio River. A place we had many picnic lunches and exploring the cave. The date and time will be announced in the spring, due to when Dakota Potts can get leave to come home. The entire family certainly intends to respect his wishes.
In lieu of flowers, gifts or food you can give to his Go Fund Me account “Bob Potts Last Wish” you can use Facebook or the Gofundme.com/bob-potts-last-wish. He wanted to help children, his actual last wish.
