Alice G. Schroeder

Alice Schroeder peacefully passed away on July 26, 2020, at The Village at Hamilton Pointe in Newburgh, IN. She was born in Newburgh, on January 11, 1932, to the late Robert L. and M. Lillian Shiver.
Although born a native Hoosier, Alice spent most of her adult life in a small town outside Springfield, IL. While there, she spent her working career as a secretary with the Springfield Public School District. She especially loved the elementary aged children in her position as Secretary to the Principle of Laketown Elementary School. During her golden years of retirement, Alice and her husband Howard, relocated back to Newburgh where they enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends.
Alice was preceded in death by her step-father, A. Ray Hames; husband, Howard; brothers, Frank Shiver & wife Della, and Kenneth Hames; sister, Edna Major & husband Kenneth; brother-in-law, Gary Pace; and granddaughter, Lindsay Gentry.
She is survived by her daughter, Becky Popenoe; son, Vincent Schroeder & wife Jean; sister, Shirley Pace; brothers, Ed Hames & wife Diane, David Hames & wife Paulette, and Steve Hames & wife Cathy, and grandchildren, Eric Sanders, Erica Schroeder and Sophia Schroeder.
A celebration of life is being delayed until later this fall. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. John’s East United Church of Christ, 7000 Lincoln Ave., Evansville, IN 47715.
