Feldman, Valli (Binkie) Kligerman – On July 26, 2023, at home in Manhattan, after a brief illness, age 102. Born Valli Kligerman in Chester, Pennsylvania, in 1920, and from an early age also known as Binkie, she was raised and educated in Philadelphia, the daughter of Sam and Dora (Medvene), and sister to Albert, Morton, and Jerome, all of whom predeceased her.
She worked in administrative positions in Philadelphia, including at the Frankford Arsenal during World War II, followed by work at the Pentagon during the same era. She moved to New York City upon her marriage to Bernard S. Feldman, of blessed memory, in 1951, who predeceased her in 1988.
Above all she loved her independence throughout her life; cooking and entertaining for family and friends; creating many needlepoint pieces – mainly pillows (many of which are in her family’s homes), keeping current on news, politics and culture; and in recent years transferring her formidable Scrabble skills to Words with Friends (sometimes having twenty games in process at once, and winning a very impressive percentage).
She is survived by her three sons: Sandy Feldman and his wife Anne Strassner of Manhattan, James Feldman and his wife Amy of Atlanta, and David Feldman and his wife Felicia of Camden, Maine, and by her five grandchildren: Amanda Feldman and her husband Roberto Pinto, of Jersey City, Olivia Feldman and her husband Jos Prikazsky, of Harrison, New York, Julia Feldman and her husband Christian Ronald, of Manhattan, Samuel Feldman and his fiancée Torie Recalde, of Manhattan, and Zachary Feldman and his partner Lea Wirtz, of Brooklyn, and three great-grandchildren: Julian, Gabriella and Sebastian.
Donations in Valli’s memory to The Jewish Museum, New York City, would be welcome, as Valli was a longtime member and supporter.
