Susan Wallack Goldstein was born in August 1940 and died peacefully at home on June 6, 2022 after successfully battling ovarian cancer for 17 years. Unlike many who have cancer, Susan did not let the disease define her. On the contrary, she and her partner Ivan Wolff, traveled, went to museums and the theater, and generally made the cancer treatments fit into her life, rather than the other way round.
Susan began her career in a traditional way, becoming a 5th grade teacher in the Northern Virginia school system, following her then-husband Irving Goldstein to Washington, DC after graduating from Queens College.
In mid-life Susan decided to pursue her dream – acting – and spent time in both DC and NYC in plays and a cabaret show. She was a talented singer and actor, with an excellent sense of comic timing.
Susan was profoundly loving and loyal to her family and those close to her, but Lord help you if you got in her way while exiting or entering any public transportation - subway or bus.
Susan is survived by her two daughters from her marriage to Irving Goldstein who passed away in 2000, Betsy Goldstein and her husband Gudmundur Audunsson, and Jill Goldstein and her husband Todd Wernstrom.
She is also survived by Ivan Wolff whom she met in 2003, and six grandchildren – Betsy’s children Isak, Kolmar and Valur and Jill’s children Hugo, Ingrid, and Liv.
A memorial service will be held at 5:00 PM on Monday, June 13th, 2022 at Riverside Chapel, Broadway and 77th Street, NYC. Donations to an ovarian cancer charity [For example: giving.msk.org] would be greatly appreciated.
