December 27, 1933 – March 8, 2023
Gracious, elegant and poised; generous, thoughtful, patient and caring; loving and always, always hopeful.
Sue Pollets Nager passed away peacefully on March 8, 2023. She was 89. She was the devoted wife of 54 years of Jordan Nager until his passing in 2010. Born on December 27, 1933 in Middletown, NY, she was the daughter of the late Philip and Emma Pollets and sister to the late Lila Green and the late Harriet Bloom.
She graduated from House in the Pines School, in Norton, MA and earned a BA from Brandeis University in 1955, a Masters degree from Columbia University in 1959 and an MBA from Adelphi University in 1981. She held management positions, first at Federation of Jewish Philanthropies and later at National Broadcasting Company. For many years she was actively involved as an Advocate with Citizens Committee for Children of New York.
Sue married Jordan on March 4, 1956. They lived most of their lives in New York City and Pound Ridge, NY where they raised their four children: Peter, Bradley, James and Alison. Jordan, her children and grandchildren (who she happily spoiled) were the center of her life.
Her love for Jordan was absolute, unconditional and eternal. It was never boring - the outspoken brash Brooklynite Jordan and the composed cultivated Upstater Sue. They were, in any case, a perfect match. Jordan was a gregarious storyteller making friends wherever and whenever, while Sue was an intellectual and charming partner who deepened and built their ever-widening circle of close friends.
Sue and Jordan traveled extensively visiting destinations around the country and around the world, always returning from trips with new friends, new understanding and, inevitably, many fabulous stories. (Only those facets of the stories confirmed by Sue could be presumed entirely credible.)
She was a friend to all and a supplemental mother to many. Her warmth and generosity were boundless to the very end. Beyond her family and friends, her passions included the Arts (she was an ardent fan of the Metropolitan Opera and the New York Philharmonic as well as a patron of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and MOMA), reading, bridge, cooking (inherited from her mother Emma) and her Havanese dogs.
Sue is survived by her children Peter (Alice), Bradley (Diane), James (Jodi) and Alison Nager Colitti (Joseph) as well as her grandchildren Jesse, Rebekah, Alexandra, Joe, Chris, Cody, Emory, Noah, Abigail and Jake as well as many nephews and nieces.
The family would like to thank those who helped care for Sue, particularly Lucy, Celia and Rabiah.
Family & friends will gather to honor and remember Sue at 2:00pm on Sunday, March 12th graveside at Westchester Hills Cemetery – Stephen Wise Free Synagogue Cemetery, 400 Saw Mill River Road, Hastings on Hudson, NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the scholarship fund at Brandeis University she endowed during her lifetime, the Sue Pollets Nager '55 Endowed Scholarship (giving@brandeis.edu).
